Planet AI: Ask & Assist — A Practical Way to Implement AI into PMS Operations

SmartHotelAI Editorial4 min read

Front-desk teams spend a surprising share of every shift clicking through menus to do simple things: extend a check-out, send a payment link, assign rooms. Planet's new Ask & Assist changes that. It is an AI assistant built directly into protel Cloud PMS that turns plain-language instructions into controlled, traceable actions — without leaving the system your staff already work in.

Two modes: Ask and Assist

Ask answers questions about how to use the PMS. Assist goes a step further: it retrieves information or tells the PMS to carry out the task.

AskHow do I extend a guest's check-out time?
AssistExtend check-out to 14:00 for room 304
AskHow do I send a payment link for a reservation?

How it works: three steps

  1. 1

Staff type an instruction. Plain language, entered directly in protel Cloud — no menus, no extra training.

  2. 2

Assist understands the intent. The AI reads the context, maps the request to the right PMS workflow and surfaces the relevant information.

  3. 3

The PMS executes. The task runs inside protel Cloud. Every action is controlled and audit-traceable, so managers keep full visibility.

Why it matters for Balkan hotels

Most hotels in our region are independents or small groups, often running lean teams through a busy season with seasonal staff. For them, AI is both an opportunity and, increasingly, a necessity to keep pace with the big chains.

  • Faster onboarding: new staff can ask the PMS how to do something instead of searching for a colleague or a manual.
  • Less repetitive work: fewer clicks and screen-hopping for routine tasks.
  • More time with guests: the front desk focuses on people, not on system logic.
As Planet puts it, the edge will not come from simply having AI, but from applying it to real hotel workflows on top of trusted operational data.

Where it stands today

Ask & Assist is currently in a pilot phase and is rolling out gradually, with capabilities expanding step by step. Today it focuses on PMS knowledge, PMS data and selected, controlled workflows inside protel Cloud.

Not yet available

Voice commands and AI-driven actions across external systems such as RMS.

On the roadmap

An open ecosystem where the PMS stays the system of record and coordinates partner systems and agents through open integrations — for example linking a housekeeping app event to room status in the PMS.

Longer term

With PMS, payments and guest functions in one ecosystem, Planet sees AI agents eventually handling bookings and payments through conversational experiences.

Join the pilot

Planet plans to expand the pilot programme significantly. Hotels in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and the wider Adriatic region can apply through MC Sistemi, the regional protel partner.
